Saturday, Jan. 6, is Peoria’s annual Winter Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge. For those brave enough, or who are interested in jumping into cold water for the fun of it, this event will be at Sunrise Pool, located at 21321 N. 86th Drive, beginning at 8 a.m. Each year, this event attracts hundreds of winter water enthusiasts who want to take a brisk morning swim to promote water safety. The pool is not heated after November, so the water temperature is estimated to be in the low 40s. Those daring enough to swim across the pool will receive a free shirt marking their accomplishment. The Polar Plunge is open to all ages and is free to enter with a free breakfast thanks to PFFC to follow. To register or to make a donation toward swimming lessons for underprivileged children, go to www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics.
This event also helps raise money for swim lessons at Sunrise Mountain pool.
