The Eight Annual PFFC Fire It Up Car Show:
The PFFC held its annual Fire It Up Car Show on May 21st, 2016 in Old Town Peoria at The State Trailer Rv & Outdoor Parking Lot. Lots of people came out to check out the show and the cool cars. Peoria Firefighters Support Breast Cancer Awareness:
During the months of September and October of 2016, the PFFC had several events, in conjunction with the City of Peoria, in support of breast cancer awareness. Through luncheons and breakfasts we were able to raise funds to support this cause.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.
Peoria Firefighters Distribute Toys for Christmas 2015 :
On December 24, 2015 the Peoria Firefighters provided toys to over 250 children encompassing 78 families during our annual Christmas for Children's Program. We were also able to provide gifts for Somalian refugee children who reside in an apartment complex in Phoenix, E192A (Dave Lopez, Josh Manning, Charles Tanner and MikeWilda) were on hand to distribute the toys.
Through our community partners we had enough toys and donations come in along with the ability to distribute clothes.

Seniors Enjoy Holiday Breakfast and Visit from Santa
On December 9, 2015 over one-hundred senior adults enjoyed a holiday breakfast and visit from Santa during the Peoria Firefighters Charities annual breakfast with Santa at the Peoria Community. Our special guests enjoyed entertainment from the singing cowboy and his horse Dusty along with the opportunity to win some great door prizes. This is the 15th year the Peoria Firefighters have hosted this event.

PFFC Seventh Annual Fire It Up Charity Car Show
On Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 the PFFC held its seventh annual Fire-It-Up Car Show.
Over 240 cars were entered and 6 different car clubs were well represented. Thirty-Three vendors were on hand to help feed and outfit the crowd. Around 2000 people made their way out to view the cars... Please click here to view pictures of our latest car show.
Peoria Firefighters Support Special Olympics:
Fourteen Special Olympians from Arizona will be representing the world in the 2015 World Special Olympics Games held in Los Angeles on July 25th thru August 2nd. Team Arizona will be going for the gold in Softball. This summer, over 7,000 athletes from 177 countries will descend upon Los Angeles to show the true meaning of courage, joy and determination in twenty-five sporting competitions.
The Peoria Firefighters Charities presented a check in the amount of $500.00 to the team and their coach during their annual awards banquet and BBQ held at the Peoria Community Center on May 6, 2015. In addition to financially supporting the team our members were on hand to cook for the athletes and their families who attended the event. Thank-you to the following members for their assistance in supporting these athletes: Troy Bauer, David Hernandez, Shane Burdick, Matt Westberg, Robert Brewster, Mike Santa Cruz and Bobby Ruiz.
Peoria Firefighters Receive City Managers Excellence Award:
To be recognized in the Community Involvement category, an employee or group of employees must demonstrate proactive steps to advance the City’s position as a leader in community and/or civic engagement. This year, the award goes to the Peoria Firefighters Charities. Peoria Firefighters Charities held the 2014 Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program at five Peoria Elementary Schools encompassing 477 third grade students. This program encourages kids to read and provides positive role models. Firefighters take time out of their busy days to visit the schools to read with the students during the program time frame. Students who meet the goal of 50 books read are treated to a luncheon hosted by the firefighters. In 2014, 35,628 books were read by the participating students.
Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program Graduation 2014/2015:
Two hundred and fifty third graders from Cotton Bol, Santa Fe and Vistancia Elementary Schools were treated to a BBQ at Rio Vista Park on February 23, 2015 for completing the 2014/2015 Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program. Collectively these students read 33,747 books during the two month program time frame.Thank you to the following individuals for their support of the program:

Peoria Firefighters Put the Merry in Christmas, 2014:
On December 24, 2014 the Peoria Firefighters provided toys to 316 children from 72 families during our annual Christmas for Children Program. We were also able to provide gifts to Somalian refugee children who reside in Phoenix. Peoria FD, E192A (Dave Lopez, Josh Manning, Charles Tanner and Tim Pyle) were on hand to distribute the presents.

Peoria Firefighters Treated to Annual Breakfast :
On December 13, 2014 the Peoria, Arizona Firefighters were invited to attend an annual breakfast hosted by the Casa-Del-Sol-East Activity Club. Casa Del Sol residents have a long history with the Peoria Firefighters and the Peoria Fire Department. When the fire department initially implemented paramedics back in the mid 1980's, Casa Del Sol donated funds to purchase a heart monitor for the fire department, to better serve the citizenry of Peoria.
Their tradition of giving continues to this day... At this event, Casa Del Sol presented a check for $200.00 to the PFFC to help fund our Children's Holiday Program. Residents also collected toys for us to hand out to those in need in our community. Casa-Del-Sol-East is located at 10960 N. 67th Avenue. Thank you to the residents of Casa-Del-Sol-East for their continued support of the Peoria Firefighters.
Senior Adult Breakfast with Santa 2014:
The Peoria Firefighters Charities were proud to once again host the Annual Senior Adult Breakfast with Santa on December 10, 2014 at the Peoria Community Center. We had a great turnout, as 155 senior adults enjoyed a pancake breakfast with all the fixings. A special visit from Santa enhanced the event. More than thirty door prizes were given away to our guests. A special thanks to Sophia Selmer for putting together the door prizes and assisting with the event.

Senior Adult Breakfast in the Park- 2014On August 6th 2014, the PFFC was proud to provide breakfast to over 100 senior adults at Rio Vista Park. This is an annual event that we host, in order to stay in touch with the community we serve.
PFFC 2014 Educational Scholarships Awarded:
The PFFC has been assisting high school students with their college tuition since 2008. During this time, the PFFC has awarded over 24,000 dollars in educational scholarships to local students. Summer Swim Lessons:
The Peoria Firefighter Charities teamed up with the City of Peoria Aquatics Division to offer free swimming lessons at Peoria Pools in the summer of 2014. The PFFC sponsored the program with a donation of $6,000.00. This program helped teach kids to swim, and assisted with drowning prevention. Please Remember: Just A Few Seconds is all it takes for a tragedy to occur.
Peoria Firefighters Assist Special Olympics:
On May 7, 2014 Peoria Firefighters Charities was on hand to cook for Team Peoria Special Olympics athletes being honored at their annual awards ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Peoria Community Center with 80 athletes and their families attending the event. These athletes participated in the 2014 Summer Games in numerous events ranging from archery to volleyball.
The Peoria Firefighter Charities are proud to support these athletes and their families. Thanks to the crew of L191C (Roy Noriega, Mike Selmer, Matt Gingras, Matt Westberg) and Tyler Comella for making this event a huge success.
Fill The Boot With Books Reading Program Graduation:
On February 21, 2014 the Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program Graduation BBQ took place at Rio Vista Park. A total of 363 students were treated to a BBQ lunch and activities. Combined, the students read 36,220 books and or chapters during the program time frame. Thank you to the following individuals for their support of the program:

Sixth Annual Winter Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge:
Over 200 participants attended the 6th Annual Winter Water Safety Day and Polar Plunge at Sunrise Mountain Pool on January 4, 2014.
The event emphasizes the importance of water safety, no matter what season it is. The pool has not been heated since October and the water temperature was in the low 40s. Those daring enough to swim across the pool received a free shirt marking their accomplishment. The Peoria Firefighters Charities were on hand cooking a hot breakfast, and providing coffee and hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy. All swimmers were encouraged to contribute $20 pledged from friends and family who want to see them take the "plunge." Donations will be used to scholarship the cost of a two-week swim lesson for a child-in-need. Play Peoria, Inc., the 501c3 organization that benefits parks, recreation and library programming in the city of Peoria, coordinates this important scholarship program.

2013 Christmas for Children Program:
During the 2013 Christmas season the Peoria Firefighters Charities were fortunate to be able to provide toys for eighty six families encompassing three-hundred and sixteen children in the City of Peoria. In addition we provided toys to group of fifty Somilian refugee children located at apartment complexes throughout the valley. The toys were seperated and delivered on December 21, 2013 by our volunteers, cadets and community partners. Over two-hundred and fifty volunteer hours made this event a huge success. On behalf of the Peoria Firefighters Charities we would like to thank the following people and organizations who volunteered their time and talents.

Breakfast with Santa 2013:
Over 135 Senior Adults enjoyed their annual visit from Santa during the Peoria Firefighters Charities Breakfast with Santa at the Peoria Community Center on December 11, 2013. The seniors were treated to a hearty breakfast of pancakes and sausage prepared by our master chefs. Santa arrived courtesy of Ladder Company 191, to allow our guests to have their picture taken with Santa and tell him their Christmas wishes. Santa's handy elf was on hand to assist giving out Candy Canes. Numerous door prizes added to the excitement of the morning along with live music. The Peoria Firefighters are proud to sponsor this event and we hope to see everyone next year.

Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program Kicks Off: 2013/2014:
The Peoria Firefighter Charities is proud to kick off the 2013/2014 Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program. This year we are in six Peoria area Elementary Schools; Ira Murphy, Santa Fe, Cotton Bol, West Wing, Vistancia and Desert Harbor. On October 25, 2013 over four hundred third grades students where treated to a pancake breakfast by the Peoria Firefighters at Rio Vista Park to get them excited about reading. Each participating student is now challenged to read at least 25 books by January 30, 2014. Peoria Firefighters will be visiting the students and reading with them during the program. Students who complete the program will be invited to attend a BBQ Luncheon courtesy of the Peoria Firefighters in February 2014. Each participating school will have an individual classroom champion. The winning classroom of each school will receive the "Boot Trophy" to be proudly displayed in their classroom for the remainder of the school year. A Peoria Unified School District Champion will also be crowned. Last years district champion was Vistancia Elementary School. The program began in 2008 and continues today to allow us to provide positive role models to today's youth and encourage them to read. Special thanks to the Peoria Unified School District Fire Science students who helped out with this years' kick off breakfast.
Westwing Elementary School - Fill the Boot with Books Reading Program 2013
The 2013 Westwing Elementary School reading program was a huge success with five classrooms consisting of 122 third grade students. The program started on October 24 with a kick off pancake breakfast and ended on December 13. The students read and an amazing 23,207 chapters during this years program. All students who completed the program were treated to a pizza party at Fire Station 197 on December 17, 2013. The top readers from each classroom were: Sophia Topolosek, Arturo Whipple, Evan Goss, Phillip Sfarcioc and Remington Johnson. Special thanks to Greg Serrano for putting on the program at Westwing Elementary.
Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2013
In September the PFFC in conjunction with the City of Peoria held our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.
Numerous events and fund raisers were participated in by many people.

PFFC 2013 Educational Scholarships Awarded
In May of this year the PFFC accepted applications for our John Valentine and General Education Scholarships. Students applying for the scholarships submitted applications along with an essay, which were then reviewed by PFFC board members. At our eighteenth annual golf tournament, the winning students were awarded with PFFC scholarships... Congratulations to Brad, Mike, & AJ!

PFFC 18th Annual Golf Tournament
On Saturday, September 28th - 2013, the PFFC held its 18th annual charity golf tournament at Trilogy Golf Club in Peoria.
Attendance was great with over 70 golfers, and fun was had by all who were there. There was golf, lunch, a raffle, and awards given out. The funds that were raised will go to assist with PFFC projects such as burn camp and the holiday drive. After the tournament, at the lunch, PFFC presented $3500.00 in educational scholarships. We also presented the Prescott Firefighters with $2500.00, for assistance with the Granite Mountain Nineteen. Special thanks go to Mario Bravo for coordinating this great event.

PFFC Sixth Annual Fire It Up Charity Car Show
On September 28th, 2013 the PFFC held its sixth annual charity car show at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Over 100 cars were entered and 8 different car clubs were well represented. Around 2500 people made their way out to view the cars. The Fire it Up raffle gave out over $8000.00 in prizes, which helped with raising lots of money for the PFFC. The money raised will go towards many PFFC programs, including $1000.00 to the Peoria Cadets, who helped out at the show. Special thanks go out to Charles Tanner, who did a great job creating and running the 2013 PFFC- Fire It Up Car Charity Show.

Pancakes In The Park:
On August 7, 2013 the Peoria Firefighter Charities in conjunction with the City of Peoria Senior Adult Program hosted the 4th Annual Pancakes in the Park event at Rio Vista Community Park. Sixty-three senior adults enjoyed breakfast and entertainment courtesy of the Peoria Firefighters Charities. Thanks to the all volunteers who assisted to make this possible. Volunteering thier time and talents were: Retired Fire Captain John Davirro, Firefighters Ben Bernes and Chad Kortman, Peoria Fire Cadet David Kohn, and Blake Comella.
PFFC Sponsors Child for Camp AZDA 2013
The Peoria Firefighters Charities were proud to sponsor a child for the 2013 Camp AZDA for children suffering from diabetes. This is the third year in which the PFFC has sponsored a child for this week long camp which is held at the Friendly Pines Camp in Prescott, Arizona.
The purpose of Camp AZDA is to provide a setting where children and teens can have fun, while learning how to better manage their diabetes. The campers learn from each other, as well as the medical staff comprised of physicians, nurses and dietitians who specialize in the care of children with diabetes. Camp AZDA includes room and board, specially planned meals and snacks, insulin, meters and all diabetes-related medical supplies. The camp is also staffed by volunteer counselors who assisted the children in their activities. Our own PFFC Board Member Ben Bernes volunteered to be a counselor again this year and has been doing so for over ten years.
TEAM PEORIA Special Olympics BBQ:
On Wednesday May 8, 2013 at the Peoria Community Center, Peoria Firefighters arrived in L191 to cook and serve a BBQ meal for TEAM PEORIA Special Olympics. This annual event is held to honor these athletes and recognize them in front of their family, friends and coaches. The athletes were not only treated to a BBQ by the Peoria Firefighters, they also got to enjoy the music of Bobby Freeman the organist for the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is the 6th consecutive year that the Peoria Firefighters have been privileged to be part of this event. The food was donated by the Peoria Firefighter Charities.
Reading Program Graduation BBQ:
On February 11, 2013, Three-Hundred third graders from Cotton Bol, Ira Murphy, Santa Fe and Vistancia Elementary Schools braved the cold weather to attend the Peoria Firefighters Fill the Boot with Books reading program graduation at Rio Vista park. The cold did not stop the students from enjoying a BBQ lunch and playing on the bounce houses. Each student who read a minumum of 25 books during the two month program was awarded the lunch and day at the park. A total of 30,259 books were read by the students. As one student from Santa Fe stated "This is the best day ever, I get hot dogs, soda and I get to miss math class." This is the seventh year the Peoria Firefighters have hosted the reading program with over 125,000 books read to date.
